Room 221
Set against a spectacular backdrop of forests, lakes and mountains, in Ireland’s County Mayo,
Ashford Castle traces it’s history to the 13th Century, although its castle-like appearance was added
by the Guinness family in the 19th Century. Today it is a fully restored, warm and luxurious resort
hotel. One need never leave its extensive grounds to enjoy walking, golf (on the estate’s own 9-hole
course) or fishing. We recommend in Room 221 (pictured above), which is large and luxurious. It is
a suite fit for royalty; indeed, it was where President Reagan stayed when he came to Ashford Castle
on a state visit to Ireland in 1994 (the room is called the “Presidential Suite” in his honor). And don’t
miss afternoon tea in the comfortable lounge. |
