The Chateau de Bagnols is a meticulously restored medieval chateau offering a luxury hotel experience in a serene setting in the heart of France’s Beaujolais countryside. Comprised of some 21 rooms, suites and public areas in which tapestries, wall paintings and other collectors items, carefully chosen by its owner, abound, the Chateau is surrounded by a grassy moat leading to a stunning formal garden and orchard and a walled-in-herb and vegetable garden providing produce used daily by the Chateau’s exellent restaurant where, in summer, one can dine outdoors on the Chateau’s terrace and in winter, indoors near a roaring fire.
We stayed in the Madame Sevigne Suite, which we highly recommend for its frescoes, welcoming bedroom fireplace, high beamed ceiling and elegant antique furnishings as well as its courtyard views from which one can enjoy the scent of lilacs in bloom outside the Suite’s bedroom windows.
